Another treatment for Parkinson's Disease!!

REACTION:

This news was very alarming for nursing students like us. I think last February or March, I attended a seminar regarding Dementia and Parkinson's disease and I can now relate on this. Though we didn't discussed it yet, I have already background on this. The speaker told us that there are no other ways on how to detect this illness except autopsy. And we all know that autopsy is done only when we die. He also tell us that the only treatment for this is medications.

And from this news that i read, I was surprised that other medical health professional find other way on treating Parkinson's disease. The author said that aside from medicines, surgery is the other option. But take note. You need to have medicine with you and also the surgery to have a better condition. The surgery was about to adjust areas that control movements. And it was so great. But this is the consequence. There might be serious risks from the surgery. The operation is called Deep Brain Stimulation.

"When the patient undergone on this surgery, after a year treatment, the patients then completed questionnaires to score their quality of life, functioning and cognitive status, using standard customized questionnaires. The researchers found that those who underwent deep brain stimulation reported their quality of life improved by five points, compared to the medication alone group whose score improved by only 0.3 points."

It was a really really interesting topic.. I had fun reading this because it was so cool :))))))
